2017 MoorArts Gala

I will be having 5 paintings (2 egg temperas, and 3 watercolors) on display and for sale at the 2017 MoorArts Gala, "An Evening of Performing & Fine Arts", in my hometown of Moorestown, NJ.  The event is being held January 28, 2017, from 7:30-10:30 PM at the Moorestown Community House, but the work by more than 20 area artists can be viewed and purchased  online now and for a few weeks following. Proceeds from the MoorArts Gala support arts-based teacher grants and scholarships, and community arts events.

"Landscapes 2015" at William Baczek Fine Arts

My painting "Valley Farmhouse, Late February" (egg tempera on panel, 16 x 20") will be featured on the exhibition announcement for the upcoming 2015 Annual Landscape Exhibition at William Baczek Fine Arts in Northampton, MA. The show opens August 25 with an opening reception on Saturday, August 29 from 5 - 7 pm. Along with about 8 new pieces by me, there will be new work by Bruce Ackerson, Derek Buckner, Marc Civitarese,  Mallory Lake, George Nemethy, Rick Pas, Scott Prior and Robert Sweeney.

Éclat International, Summer 2015

The 79th National Midyear Exhibition at the Butler Institute

I'm happy to announce that my painting, "House off the Bypass" (see the previous post) is being exhibited at the 79th National Midyear Exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown Ohio.  I'm also proud to say that my painting won an Honorable Mention.  The show runs from July 12 through August 30, 2015.  More information can be found at The Butler's website.

The Butler Institute is a wonderful collection of American Art, housed in a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts Architecture.  The building was erected in in 1919 and designed by McKim, Mead and White, a firm that created the structures for the Boston Public Library, Madison Square Garden, Washington Memorial Arch, the campuses of Columbia and Harvard, and the Century, Harvard, Metropolitan, and University clubs in New York.

Allegheny College Faculty and Alumni Exhibition

I've been invited to exhibit as featured artist at my alma mater, Allegheny College in Meadville PA.  My work will be shown in the annual faculty and alumni exhibition from Tuesday, Nov. 4 through Tuesday, Nov. 25. The artists will talk about their work at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4, with a reception following in the galleries from 8 to 9 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public. The Athenaeum of Philadelphia's 200th Anniversary Art Exhibition

I have a watercolor painting, "USS Olympia" included in the group show at the Athenaeum of Philadelphia.  The show is entitled "2014 Celebration of the Athenaeum of Philadelphia's 200th Anniversary Art Exhibition" and runs from June 29  to August 8, 2014.  The Athenaeum is a spectacular historic space and the show features paintings by various artists of buildings and monuments in Philadelphia that are on the National Historical Register.  More on the show can be seen at http://www.philaathenaeum.org/current.html.

The subject of my painting, the USS Olympia, is currently docked at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia and is open for tours.  It is the world's oldest floating steel warship and the sole surviving  naval ship of the Spanish-American War. The Fischbach Gallery is pleased to present Unspoken Beauty, the recent paintings of Jeff Gola in his first New York Solo Exhibition, opening 14 November and continuing through 14 December 2013. The Reception for the artist is Thursday, November 14, 5-7PM.

Unspoken Beauty is that moment that does not have words to explain the present feeling when you encounter love, peace, tranquility, simplicity, color, contrast of light, strength, vitality, roughness, age, and life + death. Nature provides this unspoken beauty that sometimes cannot be explained or defined through words. Beauty is everywhere but one must have the eyes to see it and appreciate it.

“Tempera is not the medium for swiftness” – Andrew Wyeth

Jeff Gola is a highly accomplished painter and staunch devotee of the craft of egg tempera; a medium that predates oil painting and uses a raw egg yolk as a binder. Jeff combines dry pigment, egg yolk and water to make paint, which is carefully applied to a panel in multiple layers. Egg tempera is very fast drying, cannot be applied thickly, and is almost impossible to overwork. Gola’s signature is the depth and luminosity shown; a result of his temperament that enables him to be able to keep putting down more layers with precision of effect and clarity of color.

Jeff Gola grew up on a farm and believes this is why he is so strongly drawn to landscapes. He has always been interested in the cycle of the seasons, but admits to loving the fall and winter best. Jeff Gola received his B.A. from Allegheny College, spent his junior year in Temple University’s program in Rome, Italy, and continued his art education with courses at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He currently resides in Moorestown, New Jersey.

"New Jersey Impressions" at Drumthwacket, Princeton NJ

I've been invited to show 2 of my "Sourlands Series" paintings at Drumthwacket, the official residence of the Governor of New Jersey.  The show is called "New Jersey Impressions: an exhibit of landscape paintings by contemporary New Jersey artist" and it runs from September 18, 2013 to July 31, 2014.
